Our Name from the Amazing Sunsets
Sunsetbay Retreats take our name from the amazing sunsets that are famous all year round where the retreats take place in the small seaside town of Tywyn on the mid-coast of Wales.
There is nothing more breath-taking than admiring spectacular sunsets, and while we can’t always guarantee a sunset on our retreats we always do our best to head to the beach to catch one whenever we can, either practising yoga amongst the waves as the sun sets in the warmer months or taking a sunset walk before dinner on the cooler days. Sunsets are not only spectacular pieces of scenery, but they are proven to have psychological and long-term benefits to your health.
Here are ten benefits of a beautiful Sunset!
Emotional Well-being: When people are connected to the beauty of nature, they feel happier and more satisfied. People’s emotions are more positive, and the mind becomes more clear.
Relaxation: To admire a sunset, it allows the mind and the body to sit back and watch the beauty of nature’s ever changing colours. Your mind gets a break from worrying about everyday lives and after the sunset is over, you feel refreshed and renewed.
Life Satisfaction: Appreciating nature’s beauty makes us realize we can be satisfied with life, without any cost or benefit. Nature’s beauty will always please us, no matter who we are. This makes us feel blessed and satisfied.
Increased Energy: While taking in the epitome of fleeting beauty, we allow the tension and tightness in our bodies to wane, we are able to take in deeper breaths. This increase in the flow of oxygen throughout our system gives our body the boost that it wants, and we feel energized and enthused.
Mental Benefits: Whilst exercise has been shown to ease symptoms of depression, anxiety and stress, simply sitting and observing the sunset also gives you the opportunity to practice mindfulness and ease the mind.
Feelings of Compassion: With the busy lives we lead, we sometimes become absorbed in our own lives, and forget about the lives of the rest of the world. Upon watching sunsets, our minds take the time to reflect more about life, therefore causing us to be more compassionate and generous
The feeling of Wellness: Sunset gazing stimulates the pineal gland as sunlight hits the eye, moves through the retinal-hypothalamic tract, and then hits the brain. This boosts our “feel-good” hormones, therefore watching the sun pass over the horizon helps you to feel better.
More Energy: Nature is fuel for the soul. Often when we feel depleted we reach for a cup of coffee, but research suggests a better way to get energized is to connect with nature, there is nothing more beautiful to boost your energy than an ever-changing sunset.
Being in the Moment: There’s a natural tendency to stop and stare at a breathtaking sunset. When you do so, you’re likely to be caught up in the moment, and your mind gets a break from fretting over the past or worrying about the future.
Appreciate Life:
According to research studies found that jaw-dropping moments [like breathtaking sunsets made participants feel like they had more time available and helped them more patient, less materialistic, and more willing to volunteer time to help others!
