What’s the deal with wellbeing retreats? Are these events worth the high cost? How can we recreate one at home?

Health and wellbeing retreats aren’t a new thing, but we’re certainly seeing more of these taking place, and they’re selling out fast. There are a variety of retreats available – from week-long retreats taking place in sunny climates, to weekend retreats in the English countryside. But why are these becoming so popular, and are they worth it? We speak to Maggie Paterson, co-founder of Sunsetbay Retreats in Tywyn, Wales…

Sound has been used by indigenous cultures throughout the world since time immemorial to bring about healing. There are many different ways to create sounds that can bring healing and harmony, both in group sound baths or individual sessions.

Experiencing therapeutic sound can bring about immense changes on every level of being – physical, mental, emotional, energetic and spiritual. Therapeutic sound tools create natural waves of clear, pure sound that both feed and strengthen the being as a whole, working through sympathetic resonance to go where they are needed.

Can gong baths really improve our health? I tried one and here’s how it impacted my energy, mood and sleep.

Once the preserve of retreats and festivals, gong baths are going mainstream – and for good reason, says Strong Women editor Miranda Larbi.

A few weekends ago, I found myself lying in a dimly lit room in Belgravia, letting the sound of gong music wash over me. With each bang, I felt myself drifting deeper and deeper into a dream-like space – feeling like I was falling backwards through space. I had no sense of time, no nagging ‘what’s next on the list?’ thought. It was an hour of pure bliss…

I went on a vegan yoga retreat as a meat-eating foodie – here’s how it went…

I recently decided I like beef after a lifetime of despising it. And it’s all thanks to devouring a burger so good that I haven’t stopped thinking about it since that first bite. I’ve since had three more beef burgers and it feels like I’ve unlocked a ‘bad’ primal desire in my appetite.

Not good timing.

I was thinking about it as I headed for Tywyn, a small coastal town in Wales, where I was about to spend four days on a strict vegan diet while practising yoga twice a day, going on hikes and beach walks in the local area and residing in a converted chapel.
